Supplement Traditional Education

We offer programs that fill in the gaps

Not all education is taught in traditional schools. Vocational and life skills need to be taught outside of the classroom. Luckily, Empowering Youths of Iowa provides programs that cover these topics. Depending on youth's needs and ages, they can enroll in our Choice Education or Enrichment program.

Specialized attention for different age groups

Our Choice Education program provides adult basic education and high school equivalency classes to out-of-school youths, ages 16 and older. We also provide college and financial aid application assistance, as well as assistance with basic needs, such as transportation and testing fees. We can even assist student in studying for and gaining their driving permits and license.

Meanwhile, our Enrichment program is offered to youths ages 7 to 19. This structured recreational and enrichment program occurs during and after school hours.

Youth participants will have access to daily homework help, structured outdoor recreation and programming delivered by outside enrichment instructors, as well as a snack and a hot meal. Youth are also connected to other appropriate E.Y.I. programs, as well as other external support to help meet their needs holistically.

We address some areas with all students. These include:

  • Career apps like My Choice, My Plan and O*Net and Bring Your A Game
  • Getting social security card and obtaining birth certificate copies and state IDs
  • G.E.D., college entrance exams, vocational tech and apprenticeship programs

We can also educate youths on entrepreneurship, obtaining special accommodations and technology and Job Corps.
